{"id":557,"date":"2011-05-01T18:23:52","date_gmt":"2011-05-01T23:23:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.messyblessings.com\/learning\/?p=557"},"modified":"2011-05-01T18:23:52","modified_gmt":"2011-05-01T23:23:52","slug":"hand-in-hand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/messyblessings.com\/learning\/2011\/05\/01\/hand-in-hand\/","title":{"rendered":"Hand in Hand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When <em><a title=\"Our Sunday Visitor\" href=\"http:\/\/www.osv.com\/HeaderNav\/OSVHome\/OSVHome\/tabid\/53\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Our Sunday Visitor&#8217;s<\/strong><\/a> <a title=\"OSV's Early Childhood Education\" href=\"http:\/\/www.osv.com\/ParishNav\/MonthlyParishColumns\/EarlyChildhoodEducation\/tabid\/845\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Early Childhood Education<\/a><\/em> column for April 2011 arrived in my email, I was delighted to read <a title=\"Anne Neuberger's website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.anneneuberger.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Anne Neuberger&#8217;s<\/a> article titled <a title=\"Hand of Peace by Anne Neuberger\" href=\"http:\/\/www.osv.com\/ParishNav\/MonthlyParishColumns\/EarlyChildhoodEducation\/April2011\/tabid\/8321\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Hands of Peace.&#8221;<\/a> Inspired by the <em>Hands of Peace<\/em> exhibit at the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center in Washington, D.C., Neuberger writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In anticipation of the May 1 beatification of Pope John  Paul, help  children understand that their hands are part of their  spirituality.<\/p>\n<p>Discuss this by asking them if they can guess some ways our hands help us show either God\u2019s love to others or show God our love.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The <a title=\"OSV's Hands of Peace by Anne Neuberger\" href=\"http:\/\/www.osv.com\/ParishNav\/MonthlyParishColumns\/EarlyChildhoodEducation\/April2011\/tabid\/8321\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> includes some suggestions for ways our hands might show love, including  hugging, preparing food\/feeding people, and brushing teeth (&#8220;caring for  our bodies which are gifts from God&#8221;). This reminded of a special unit I  once did with my seniors<strong>*<\/strong> in association with <a title=\"The King Holiday\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thekingcenter.org\/KingHoliday\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Luther King, Jr. Day<\/a>.
